Football spends years telling us it is for everyone.
Then you turn 50 and apparently you are expected to buy a nice coat and stand behind a barrier.
No thanks.
At Stylo Matchmakers, we like people who still want the ball.
That is why we are backing walking football.
Not because it is fashionable.
Because it is football.
Same Game. Less Sprinting.
Walking football is not football with the important bits removed.
The pass still matters.
Touch matters.
Movement matters.
Positioning matters.
Knowing where the ball is going before it gets there matters.
You just get slightly longer to complain when somebody gives it away.
Seems fair.
Football Was Never Just Exercise
Yes, walking football keeps people moving.
Good.
But football gives people more than exercise.
A team.
A dressing room.
A reason to turn up.
Someone to blame for the defeat.
Someone else to insist they were unlucky after losing 6–1.
Walking football gives that back to people who thought their playing days were over.
That matters.
These Players Know Stylo
There is another reason walking football feels right for us.
A lot of these players remember Stylo the first time around.
They remember black boots.
Mud.
Saturday afternoons.
George Best.
Kevin Keegan.
Billy Bremner.
Pelé.
They remember football before every boot needed a launch video and somebody pointing at it on TikTok.
Some remember Stylo Matchmakers.
Now they are still playing.
We like that.
History meeting history.
Only with slightly more stretching beforehand.
Black Boots. Proper Football.
Walking football does not need gimmicks.
Neither do we.
We have always liked the black football boot.
Simple.
Sharp.
No fireworks.
No ridiculous name.
No need to look like it was designed during a power cut in Las Vegas.
Just a football boot.
The game does the talking.
The boot gets on with its job.
Grassroots Means Everybody
People often talk about grassroots football as if it means children.
It doesn’t.
Grassroots means people playing football because they love football.
Age is irrelevant.
Standard is irrelevant.
The important bit is turning up.
Sunday league.
Non-league.
Youth football.
Walking football.
Same game.
Different speed.
We Want Walking Football Matchmakers
That second word in our name is there for a reason.
Matchmakers.
We want players.
Coaches.
Organisers.
Teams.
Volunteers.
Characters.
People who have been around football long enough to know what matters and old enough to ignore most of the nonsense.
Those are our people.
Not influencers.
Football people.
Much easier to talk to.
Football For Life
Modern football is obsessed with the next thing.
Next player.
Next kit.
Next boot.
Next trend.
Walking football says some things are worth keeping.
The bloke who played 30 years ago.
The woman who started at 55.
The player with bad knees and a good first touch.
The old midfielder still pointing where everybody else should stand.
Stylo disappeared once.
So did plenty of footballers.
We both came back.
Walking football gives people another match.
Another team.
Another reason to lace up their boots.
That is worth supporting.
So we are with the players still asking for the ball.
Still arguing about handball.
Still taking free kicks too quickly.
Still absolutely certain they could have gone pro if it wasn’t for one thing or another.
Good.
Keep going.
Football does not have an expiry date.
Football for life.
